Model Rocket Review : Cinco (free 13mm version) By Art Applewhite Rockets

The Cinco Flying Saucers come in various sizes, which can be launched on 13mm, 18mm or even 24mm model rocket motors.

The mini motor (13mm) version can be downloaded free online on the Art Applewhite web site. As you can build them for close to nothing, why not build a whole fleet?

Cinco
Parts List

As this is free rocket that you can download online, there is no parts list as such. Simply download the .pdf file and print it on 110lb card stock.

Supplies you'll need to build the Cinco Flying Saucer include hobby knife (or scissors), metal ruler and glue.

Construction

Once you have printed out the UFO pattern, cut it out with a hobby knife (or scissors).

When using a hobby knife, use a metal ruler to guide the knife and always cut on the outside of the pattern. In case you make an incorrect cut, it won't damage the flying saucer.

The next step is to fold the dotted lines and apply glue to the areas marked with the word "glue".

Put glue on the tabs on the bottom half and glue the two halves together.

Glue the engine mount in the center of the flying saucer and apply glue to motor mount/body joints.

Finishing

Printing the UFO's on different color stock paper will give you different looks, as shown in the image on top of this page.

You can also print it on white card stock and paint (gold paint used in image on the right) or color the Cinco rockets as you see fit.

Another option is to add stickers to these flying saucers. Just about anything you can do to paper to decorate it, you can do to these free rockets. This can make them a fun activity for kits. Cut the patterns for them and have them assemble their own Cinco (if they're old enough) and finally have them decorate it any way they see fit.

Flight Data

Suggested model rocket motors for the Cinco are : 1/4A3-3T, 1/2A3-2T, A10-3T and A10-PT.

Launched the UFO on a A10-3T a few times. Shot up pretty straight and didn't get much of an altitude. Fun flight and excellent for small fields. These are also great fun to race against each other.
