Model Rocket Review : Pratt Hobbies Booster Stage Kit

This kit provides you with a booster stage for use with Pratt Hobbies flying model rockets, such as the Polaris and Super Six. It should work with other rockets with a .77 inch outside Diameter.

By adding this stage to a model rocket, you enable it for two-stage flight. Staging is an easy way to add to the fun and excitement or model rocketry and also increases the maximum altitude reached.

Booster Stage
Parts List

The kit includes the parts required to build one booster stage.

    - outer body tube
    - motor mount tube (18mm)
    - 3 pre-cut balsa fins
    - instruction sheet with fin marking guide

All you need to construct the booster is some white or yellow glue. No other hobby supplies are required.

Construction

The booster stage is quick and easy to assembly. Simply glue the motor mount into the body tube and attach the three fins.

To use the booster for two-stage flights, tape a booster engine and sustainer engine together using a strip of cellophane tape.

Masking tape has been wrapped around the sustainer engine (forward of the cellophane tape) to friction fit the engine into the sustainer stage.

Staging Step 1
Insert the engines (sustainer side up) into the upper stage. Friction fit the sustainer engine into place, using the masking tape which is seen in the previous image. Staging Step 2
Slide the booster stage over the booster engine. Insert the igniter (and plug) into the booster engine and you're ready for two-stage flights.

The flying model rocket used in these pictures is the Polaris (a Pratt Hobbies kit).

Staging Step 3
Measurements

The Pratt Hobbies booster stage is slightly over 3 1/4" long.

Flight Data

This booster kit obviously uses booster engines, such as the B6-0 and C6-0.
