Launcher Set Review : Sky Rocket Smoker

This is a slingshot-style launched rocket. Hand launched rockets lack the sound and smoke produced by a solid fuel model rocket.

This set was selected for review as it claims to produce a 'smoke trail'.

The idea alone of getting a smoke trail was sufficiently interesting to try it for ourselves.

Sky Rocket Smoker

The concept sounded simple enough. Use the 'fuel flask' to dispense some white powder into a rocket. Launch the rocket and have it release the powder during flight, producing the appearance of a smoke trail.

Parts List

Below is a list of items included in this kit. You' ll have everything required to launch the Sky Rocket Smoker.

Toy Rocket Set - 2 foam rockets
    - hand-held launcher (slingshot style)
    - smoke loader (fuel flask) with break-away lanyard
    - instructions booklet

You will require a pair of scissors to cut off a small piece of the tip of the fuel flask. To reload the fuel flask, all purpose flour can be used.

Assembly

All items come ready-to-launch, no assembly required. Simply remove the tip of the fuel flask with scissors. The instructions booklet explains how to launch the rockets, and how to load the smoke.

Pros

As far as slingshot style rockets go, this is a nice set and a fun toy. Rockets can be launched to a respectable height/distance (for this type of launcher). It produces a somewhat visible 'smoke train'.

This launcher set is fairly inexpensive and appears to be well constructed.

Cons

The instructions say to fill the rocket with powder to the red line (on the rocket's body tube). This appears very hard, if not impossible. Looking down the rocket's body tube, there appears to be no way to see when it is loaded to that level.
