Model Rocket Review : Estes Snitch UFO
This plastic UFO kit is almost ready to fly out of the box.

When launched, it shoots up, flips over and lands on its legs. It is launched as seen in the photo on the right, landing gear pointing up. Its bright color makes it easy to follow on the way up.

The kit is out of production, however it can still be found in hobby stores or on ebay auctions. It originally sold for around $10.00.

Estes Snitch

Parts List

This Estes rocket comes in a plastic, see-through, box.

    - UFO
    - 3 legs
    - 2 motor retainer rings/caps
    - instruction sheets

There are indeed two retainer rings included with this model rocket. If you lose or break one, the second will come in handy.

Construction

Building the UFO is limited to attaching the legs and the motor retainer ring/cap. The instructions say to add some tape to the legs and you'll want to follow that suggestion.

Finishing

There is no finishing of any kind required.

Measurements

The UFO measures about 7 1/2" in diameter and stand 2 3/4" tall (not counting the landing gear).

Flight Data

The Snitch UFO uses the B6-0 and C6-0 booster engines.

For the first flight, a B6-0 was used. There was quite a bit of wind and the UFO jumped off the launch pad at a bit of an angle. It came down at an even greater angle and broke a plastic peice which holds one of the legs in place.

Needless to say, we hadn't bothered to add the tape and wish we had. We've since seen other Snitches flown, nice straight flights and no damage upon landing.
